The Secret? A Seamless Transition to Middle School
Familiarisation with Year 5 Learning Spaces
In Year 4, your child will spend time in the Year 5 classrooms and open learning areas, becoming familiar with the spaces they will soon call home. They鈥檒l learn where to find key facilities like lockers, toilets, and the computer lab, ensuring they feel confident and prepared when they move to Middle School.
Exploring the Senior School Library
Our Senior School Library opens its doors to Year 4 students, where they鈥檒l discover the wealth of resources available to them. The library staff will guide them through the different facilities, helping them feel at ease in this new environment.
Year 5 Transition Sport Program
In Term 4, Year 4 students get a head start on the Middle School sports program by selecting a Summer Sport to participate in. They鈥檒l train during Year 4 Sports afternoons and even compete in fixtures against Guildford Grammar School. This early introduction to the sports program helps them build confidence and camaraderie with their peers.
Canteen Day and SmartRiders
To help your child navigate the independence of Middle School, we introduce them to the College canteen in Year 4. Each Friday, they鈥檒l use their College-issued SmartRider to purchase lunch or a snack, guided by Junior School staff to ensure a smooth experience.
Joining the College Choir
Year 4 students who are part of the Junior School choir will transition to the College Choir, where they鈥檒l have the chance to sing alongside Middle and Senior School students. This experience culminates in a special performance at the College Christmas Carols, fostering a sense of belonging and achievement.
Special Year 4 Events and Opportunities
Year 5 Orientation Day
This fun-filled day is designed to introduce Year 4 students to the Middle School staff and environment in an engaging and supportive way. Throughout Term 4, Middle School teachers visit Year 4 classrooms, helping to build relationships and ease the transition.
Leadership Day: 鈥淪tepping Up鈥
Our tailor-made Leadership Day, called ‘Stepping Up’, offers Year 4 students a chance to develop self-awareness and leadership skills. Through a series of workshops, your child will learn how to work with others and make a positive impact on the world around them. This day of learning, fun and collaboration is just for Year 4 students and includes lunch and morning tea.
Year 5 Student Welcome Meetings
Mr. Brad Hilliard, Head of Middle School, personally visits each Year 4 class, spending time with the students and helping them feel welcomed and supported. Following his visit, your child will write a letter to his or her future Year 5 Tutors, further easing the transition to Middle School.
Individualised Support
We understand that every child is unique. If your child has any concerns or additional learning support needs, our dedicated staff are here to help. Whether they need extra guidance or just someone to talk to, we鈥檙e committed to ensuring they feel confident and ready for the next step in their educational journey.
Year 4 Camp
As a highlight of Term 4, our Year 4 students enjoy their first camp, a sleepover on Hanton Quad at the College. This fun and memorable experience, led by our Outdoor Education and Year 4 staff, helps your child build independence and forge lasting friendships.
